Newsletter: February 2009
International Action has been invited to participate in a major water and environment conference - "Disinfection 2009" - this month in Atlanta.
Sponsored by many commercial organizations which make water treatment equipment and professional groups engaged in water safety programs, the Conference will draw hundreds of participants. The WEF (Water Environment Federation) with 35,000 members and 81 affiliated groups is the main sponsor.
We are the guests of Arch Chemicals which supplies the chlorine tablets for our Haiti program.
Water treatment in Kenya, Haiti, India, Dominican Republic and elsewhere will be documented in 40 panels running for five days. One of the Conference Chairs - Daniele Lantagne, of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention - wrote a positive description of our Haiti program two years ago. She visited our training conference in Port-au-Prince.
The Disinfection 2009 Conference acts as a forum for professionals concerned with disinfection needs and technologies and will focus on all aspects of the disinfection of water, waste water, reuse water and biosolids. It will also address the disinfection or other treatment of water and wastewater in small communities and households in developed and developing countries.
We plan to demonstrate our chlorinator system and to build valuable connections with professionals and academics. This support will help our program grow and expand our reach to the poor of Haiti and other developing countries.
